Recruiting

You have now reclassified and joined the next recruiting class. Whether you have made that decision in January or July, your new recruiting cycle starts immediately. Once your postgraduate year starts, we will connect on a regular basis in regards to your recruiting, but before you arrive, you must be reaching out to college coaches to reestablish or create relationships. In the recruiting world, there are two types of student-athletes: buyers and sellers. Heading into a postgraduate year, nearly every one of you is a seller. You do not yet have a list of schools and football programs to choose from. You must package and sell yourself to the schools you are interested in. After performance at summer camps and during your postgraduate season, you will then become a buyer. Here are some musts to sell yourself in your new recruiting class: 1. Twitter     - If you do not have a Twitter account, create one. If you are not active on your Twitter account, get active! This is the hub ...

Strength and Conditioning

One of the major focuses of your postgraduate year will be to get bigger, faster and stronger to prepare yourself for college football. You will work closely with our strength and conditioning coach, Brad West, to improve yourself in all of theses areas. Your commitment to the weight room during your year at Bridgton Academy may be different than what you are used to. Many of you played multiple sports in high school, filling the winter months with time on the basketball court, ice rink or track. You've spent the spring months with a lacrosse stick or baseball glove in your hand. Those months will now be filled with 3-4 days per week in the weight room, 1-2 days per week on the field or basketball court for speed and agility sessions. Your commitment to these events will take discipline. For the summer heading into your postgraduate year, we will provide you with a workout plan. If you are already on a workout plan or working with a personal trainer, please feel free to stick with ...

Equipment/Gear

Bridgton Academy will provide you with nearly every piece of equipment you will need for the upcoming season. There are two items we ask that you provide on your own:     - Cleats (black, gray or white)     - Molded girdle (pads already in it) You will receive a certified and safe-for-use helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey, practices pants, thigh pads, knee pads and a gear package that usually consists of t-shirts, shorts, polo and sweatsuit. While we do provide the necessary equipment you need, you can use your own helmet or shoulder pads if desired. If you plan on using either or both items, you must get them reconditioned at your own expense . All Riddell helmets can be reconditioned through our Riddell representative, Mark LaFountain: mplafountain@riddellsales.com 25 Crabtree Drive Topsham, ME 04086 Mention that you are an incoming Bridgton Academy student-athlete and that you need the helmet painted matte black. Welcome Reception at the Colonnade

On Sunday, July 16th, Bridgton Academy will be hosting a Welcome Reception at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston. This is not a mandatory event, but it is a great opportunity for you to meet your future teammates/classmates, coaches and teachers. Keep an eye on your email throughout the summer for the registration link.

Medical Forms/Paperwork

Around the time of the Welcome Reception, you will receive email communication from our nurse, Kate Tucker. There are a few items we will need from you before reporting day. She will send information on how to set up your portal and upload the necessary items. You will need:     - An up-to-date physical     - Immunization records     - Proof of insurance     - ImPACT test The first three are mostly self-explanatory. The final item, the ImPACT test, is a concussion-baseline test. You may have taken it in high school, but if you haven't, it is a 30-45 minute test that tests your memory and reaction times to create a baseline score. If you suffer a concussion, you will retake the test and need to score within a certain range of your baseline to return to activity. This test cannot be taken on a phone and must be taken on a laptop or desktop computer. A mouse is also recommended.
